Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and his daughter Jasmine Johnson attended the global premiere of Cirque du Soleil ‘Auana at the Outrigger Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel on Dec. 17 in Hawaii. The show blends Hawaiian legends with Cirque’s iconic acrobatics.
For the exciting occasion, the WWE star opted for casual digs, donning a pair of classic thong flip-flops. The footwear pick featured brown leather uppers accompanied by intersecting straps in a thong shape that separated Dwayne’s toes. The star’s flip-flop choice is pretty typical in construction. For those shopping for similarly relaxed styles, brands like Dockers, Ralph Lauren, Reef, Quicksilver, Zara, Vince Camuto and Old Navy, among others.
Although the silhouette is increasingly polarizing, flip-flops have seen a major resurgence in popularity within the last year thanks to a shift towards comfort and casual dress. The Row’s release of flip-flop styles launched the silhouette into popularity once again.
The brand, fronted by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, released its first flip-flop silhouette titled the Ginza sandal back in 2019. Retailing for $990, the minimalistic shoe garnered major buzz back in 2023 and continues to be a best-selling item for The Row.
Appreciating the warmer weather, Dwayne donned an orange and white Hawaiian shirt featuring button closures, a collared neckline and an abstract print. On the bottom, the “Red Notice” star sported cream-colored slacks. A pink and purple lei was slung around the wrestler’s neck. Dwayne also wore silver-framed aviator sunglasses. Meanwhile, his daughter also kept her footwear casual and paired a black dress with a floral print with Urder Armour’s Surge 4 AC Running Shoes in the gray and orange colorway.
The pair’s attendance at the Hawaiian-centric event comes just in time as Dwayne’s new film “Moana 2” just released. The film, which was released back in November, documents Moana’s journeys to the far seas of Oceania after receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors. The sequel, and its original, both celebrate Hawaiian culture and the heritage of other Polynesian islands, much like Cirque du Soleil ‘Auana. The actor is Samoan.
