Doja Cat was in white — and wet — when she arrived on the 2024 Met Gala red carpet Monday evening in New York.
To accessorize her sheer white Vetements dress, the singer chose a thin-heeled Pleaser translucent platform shoe that measured approximately 6 inches. She was joined by the brand’s Creative Director, Guram Gvasalia, for photographs.
The 28-year-old is an avid fan of the platform shoe. Doja wore what appeared to be the same high-heeled style for a night out ahead of the Met Gala on May 5, 2024. The rapper even released a line with Skechers in 2023 where she offered platform sneakers for her fans to purchase. In 2021, Doja wore a white pair of platform boots while performing at Global Citizen Live.
The affordable shoes are sold online, with a vintage 2001 pair dubbed the “Cinderella” on display at the MET. Cinderella’s “glass slipper” has become plastic in this contemporary sandal. Called the “Pleaser” shoe, it is widely worn by dancers and sex workers. It has a platform that lengthens the leg, a high arch, and an ankle strap that anchors it securely on the foot.
While platform heels have been around for a very long time, the style has become more popular over the past decade. The set features an elevated sole which forces the heel to bring at least 4 inches of height to any look. The platform sole helps add support and comfortability to a pair without sacrificing the height.
The Met Gala raises funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and celebrates the Costume Institute’s annual exhibits. This year’s theme, “The Garden of Time,” celebrates the “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibit. The 2024 event is notably co-chaired by Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
