Coco Gauff has advanced to her first-ever U.S. Open semifinal after beating Jelena Ostapenko from Latvia by 6-0 6-2. The electric match took place today on Day 9 of the 2023 U.S. Open tournament at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.
The young athlete of 19 years old, who became the first teen to reach the semifinals since Serena Williams in 2001, graced the court in a pair of her signature 90s-inspired Coco CG1 New Balance sneakers.
The sneaker is cast in a burgundy, black and neon yellow colorway and features New Balance’s patent springy FuelCell technology for an ultra-cushioned feel. Additionally, the footwear includes sleek black lace-up closures and saddle gore bands that aid the wearer during lateral movement.
Gauff’s sneakers utilize New Balance’s energy arc technology which was designed to increase stored energy, delivering the wearer the highest energy return during use. The set is sat atop thick tread that gives the footwear a non-slip feel, upping the footwear’s performance capabilities.
The signature silhouette also includes punchy graphics, neon yellow logos and lace jewel detail heavily inspired by the athlete’s personal style. Beyond the colorway Gauff was wearing, the Coco CG1 also comes in a versatile and subdued white and black style.
Repping New Balance, the star athlete donned a burgundy tank top made of sweat-wicking technology paired with a coordinating breathable mesh skort in a free-flowing style. Rounding out her look, the star styled brick red sweatbands with New Balance’s logo plastered on the front in white.
