Coco Gauff beat Mirra Andreeva of Russia during their Women’s Singles second-round match held on Day Two of the 2023 U.S. Open in New York today. Gauff ended the game with a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
For the match, the athlete stepped onto the court in a pair of 90s-inspired Coco CG1 New Balance sneakers, Gauff’s signature shoe. Cast in a red, black and neon yellow colorway, the footwear featured New Balance’s patent springy FuelCell cushioning with sleek black lace-up closures and saddle gore bands to aid the wearer during lateral movement.
The pair utilizes New Balance’s energy arc technology which is designed to increase stored energy. The set is sat atop thick tread that gives the footwear a non-slip feel, upping the footwear’s performance capabilities.
Also included in the signature silhouette are punchy graphics, neon yellow logos and lace jewel detail heavily inspired by the athlete’s personal style. Beyond the aforementioned colorway, the Coco CG1 also comes in a more subdued white and black style.
Gauff signed with New Balance at the age of 14 in 2018. In 2022, the athlete signed onto a long-term contract with the brand, a move which further solidified their union.
Getting her game face on, Gauff wore head-to-toe New Balance gear comprised of a burgundy sports bra and a coordinating mesh skort. Additionally, the tennis champ donned a New Balance-branded sweatband, also in a burgundy shade.
