Chelsea Handler was bandaged up on the Critics Choice Awards red carpet on Friday night. The comic recently announced that she had surgery for a shoulder infection. But that didn’t stop her from showing up to host the show. The star wore a one-shoulder Maticeveski midi dress. The cream-colored creation is named the Rhythm silhouette and features ruffle embellishments.
For footwear, Handler wore a pair of Blue by Betsey Johnson pumps. In particular, they are the Cruze heel. The shoe is a half d’orsay silhouette meaning that while the outside of each heel resembles a typical pump, the inside includes a cutout dividing the front and the back of the upper. The Cruze is nude in color but made of a mesh material.
This mesh is embellished with a silver latticework design offset with rhinestones. The formal shoe is finished with a pointed-toe, four-inch stiletto heel and a baby blue sole. The company currently sells the heel for $129.
Blue by Betsey Johnson is the designer’s bridal shoe line. It was first debuted in 2013 and each style contains the titular blue signature sole. When it was introduced, it was Johnson’s first step into the bridal market after starting her design career in the 1960s. Now, many Johnson styles sport the Betsey Blue soles.
Outside of the soles the line has made its name for moderately priced, fun and whimsical designs often sporting colorful prints and embellishments.
Handler wore another asymmetrical dress in 2023 when she hosted the Critics Choice Awards. On that go around, the dress was full length. Beneath it, she wore a pair of pointed-toe pumps. For an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” that year she wore a pair of Manolo Blahnik BB heels. That silhouette is a classic pointed-toe pump.
Held annually, the Critics Choice Awards celebrates projects across film and television. Hosted by Chelsea Handler, this is the 30th annual event. Projects like “Conclave,” “Wicked” and “Dune: Part Two” lead the film nominations while “Shogun” leads the television nominations. Presenters will include Aldis Hodge, Kate Hudson, Kathryn Hahn, Lupita Nyong’o and Sarah Michelle Gellar among others.
