Cate Blanchett jetted from New York to Los Angeles this week as she continues promoting the upcoming Eli Roth sci-fi film “Borderlands.” At a special fan event this week, Blanchett transformed kitchenware into kitchen-wear with a top made of spoons and Paul Andrew pumps with a pointed toe as sharp as any knife.
Blanchett has already turned heads with her recent fashion statements, stepping out in Christian Louboutin crocodile-embossed leather pumps on Aug. 5 and later in the day sporting Diadora sneakers with eye-catching color-blocking.
Across the country at the TCL Chinese Theatre on Aug. 6, Blanchett leaned into the otherworldly aesthetic of the film, which is adapted from a popular video game of the same name, opting to wear a unique halter top from Hodakova made of 102 overlapping silver spoons. The curvature of those repurposed utensils naturally added a great deal of dimension and texture to Blanchett’s outfit, which also included straight-leg black pants.
The actress looked prepared to fight a battle in space, as the storyline of “Borderlands” entails. The Swedish brand presented a spoon dress and spoon bra last year for its fall/winter 2023 collection.
But if Blanchett’s shirt was 102 spoons, her shoes were two knives. The actress completed the look with a pair of ultra-sharp black pumps by English fashion designer Paul Andrew, specifically the brand’s Spike Pump Zip shoe. The heel is made from calfskin and features a 3.95-inch narrow stiletto heel. A distinctive feature of the shoe is a silver metal zipper trim along the insole, adding a subtle edge to the look.
Blanchett has proved her fashion prowess throughout her career in addition to her acting chops. In April, she attended Louis Vuitton’s women’s pre-fall 2024 show wearing black block-heel leather boots with a relaxed but stylish black-and-white ensemble.
Her new movie is scheduled to be released on Aug. 9.
