Carlos Alcaraz took the US Open by storm on Wednesday’s Men’s Singles Quarterfinal match — and did so in style afterwards, thanks to Nike.
After his winning match against Germany’s Alexander Zverev, Alcaraz wore a set of Nike’s Mac Attack shoes. As seen on social media via Tennis Letter, the pair featured its signature paneled uppers in black and light gray technical fabric, overlaid with smooth gray leather. The round-toed set has greater history than just its sharp silhouette, however; it was originally made in 1984 for tennis star John McEnroe, who shared his compliments on Alcaraz’s shoes of choice.
“Patrick, make sure you tell Carlos I love his sneakers,” McEnroe told his brother, Patrick McEnroe, who interviewed Alcaraz on the court following his win.
Alcaraz’s reply? “Thank you, it’s a good one, right?”
Alcaraz’s off-court moment followed his victory on the court, where he wore his first set of Nike footwear: a white lace-up NikeCourt Air Zoom Vapor Pro sneaker from the athletic brand’s Vapor Pro franchise, featuring narrow toes and slightly rounded rubber outsoles. For a total finish, the style was complete with light orange and tonal blue trim. The retro-colored set made a sharp statement against the court’s deep blue hue during the match, where Alcaraz beat the German athlete 18-9.
