For this year’s CFDA Fashion Awards, stars brought an array of style statements to the red carpet — from the classically chic to the avant-garde.
As formal dress codes have expanded over time, so has playfulness with proportions, materials and patterns on the red carpet — which was seen firsthand at the awards. Stars like Emma Chamberlain, Vanessa Hudgens and Dove Cameron opted for classic black dresses, elevated with details like leather, corsetry and soaring platform heels for a modern edge. Others, like host Anne Hathaway, Emily Ratajkowski and James Turlington, experimented with colors and textures in monochrome ensembles — and even harkened back to the double-denim looks of the early 2000’s.
Below, discover the best-dressed stars at the 2023 CFDA Fashion Awards.

Anne Hathaway
Anne Hathaway instantly went viral upon arriving to the American Museum of Natural History in a two-piece denim outfit by Ralph Lauren. The “Princess Diaries” star’s attire featured a deep blue button-up bodice and light blue maxi skirt, each covered in a delicate contrasting toile print. For a dash of glamour, the actress sparkled in glittering diamond Bulgari jewelry and gleaming silver sandals.
Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian took a gothic edge to her presenter attire in a black leather Chrome Hearts dress, which featured a halter-neck bodice and allover layered crosses — a signature of the brand. Metal earrings and towering 6-inch platform mules added a slick finish to the “Kardashians” star’s look.
Jenna Lyons
Jenna Lyons — former CEO of J.Crew and new member of “The Real Housewives of New York City” — brought her own eclectically chic take to suiting in a double-breasted black blazer and pants, paired with a knotted green leather bag and her signature red lipstick. Prada’s white knot-topped pumps brought a stark contrast to Lyons’ look, bringing her attire a neutral flair.
Lola Tung
Rising style star Lola Tung — also known as Belly on “The Summer I Turned Pretty” — gleamed on the red carpet in a Balmain minidress, complete with matte nude base paneling and intricate patterns made with clear beads. Dangling drop earrings and a set of embellished satin pumps brought her look a dash of formal glamour.
Emma Chamberlain
Emma Chamberlain hit the red carpet in a sculptural Thom Browne look, featuring a silky corseted dress with geometric cutouts beneath a tweed blazer. The YouTube star’s formal attire was modernized with rusty red eyeshadow, asymmetric earrings and a silky black hair bow, while glossy black pumps gave her look a sharp finish.
Vanessa Hudgens
While accompanying Vera Wang — who was honored with the Board of Director’s Tribute — to the Awards, Hudgens posed on the red carpet in a strapless black dress with a sweetheart bodice and gathered ball skirt, revealing a pair of matching platform sandals. Glittering diamond Chopard earrings brought a bejeweled finish to the “Entergalactic” star’s look.
James Turlington
James Turlington — the baseball player-turned-model nephew of supermodel Christy Turlington — popped on the red carpet in a monochrome ensemble, featuring a relaxed golden yellow suit over a matching open-knit top. The model’s look was sharply streamlined with a matching pair of yellow sneakers.
Dove Cameron
For a grungy take on formal dressing, Cameron stepped out in a sleeveless black leather dress from Coach. Designed by Stuart Vevers, the singer’s ’90s-inspired attire was complete with the brand’s quilted Tabby 20 handbag — plus gleaming silver earrings and towering Giuseppe Zanotti platform pumps.
Emily Ratajkowski
Ratajkowski made a whimsical statement on the red carpet in a pale yellow Tory Burch minidress, featuring a one-sleeved bodice covered in gathered paneling from the designer’s spring 2024 collection. A pair of matching light yellow slip-on mules, as well as a gleaming diamond bracelet from Brilliant Earth, smoothly finished her ensemble.
The CFDA Awards honor American designers and brands that are members of the Council of Fashion Designers of America. This year, the organization’s annual event will be held in partnership with Amazon Fashion in New York City. Anne Hathaway will serve as host of the star-studded occasion.
