Mikey Madison stepped out in an understated all-black look starring a pair of Christian Louboutin Me Dolly Mules at the 2025 Film Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday in Santa Monica, Calif.
The rising star’s designer shoes were inspired by the one-and-only Dolly Parton and have been updated in a higher 85 mm 3.35-inch stiletto heel. (The Me Dolly also comes in classic 55 mm and taller 100 mm heel styles.)
The classic silhouette features an almond-shaped toe with a wide peep-toe. She wore the smooth black Nappa leather style, on which the iconic Louboutin red bottoms really pop. Madison paired the classic peep-toe mules with a black strapless dress that hit at the ankles and simple pearl stud earrings.
Mules, which are essentially backless shoes, are very on-trend at the moment, especially with kitten or block heels, as well as a wide variety of flat styles. Mules often feature the trendy toe shape of the moment, so many current ones feature open pointed-toes or open square-toes.
Mules were first popularized in the 17th century as bedroom slippers, later becoming fashionable thanks to wealthy women in the French court. The shoe variety reemerged in the 1950s, with stars like Marilyn Monroe favoring the style — especially the more modern open-toe style. Mules recently saw a bump in popularity in the 2010s, and again in 2024.
Madison’s shoe style often leans towards pointed-toe pumps, mules and heeled sandals from high-end designers like Ferragamo and Manolo Blahnik. She often opts for black shoes or ones the same color as her dress, like the striking gold Prada sandals and dress she wore at the BAFTAs.
She’s worn a variety of Ferragamo kicks while promoting “Anora” during awards season, including the Lysandra t-strap design on several occasions. On the “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon” on Jan. 8, she embraced the mule trend in a black marabou feather adorned pair.
Madison won Best Lead Performance for her career-making role in “Anora” at the 40th annual Film Independent Spirit Awards. The critically acclaimed, Cannes Palme d’Or-winning film also earned Best Feature and Best Director (Sam Baker) on Saturday. Demi Moore and her famous dog Pilaf, Natasha Lyonne, Alana Haim, Coleman Domingo, Jay Ellis and other stars also attended the beach side awards show.
Madison and her “Anora” co-stars also attended the SAG Awards on Sunday, although they came home empty handed. The film is up for six awards at the upcoming Oscars on March 2, including Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Original Screenplay and Best Director.
