Angelina Jolie has proven that shoes are optional for interviews on late night television. The star walked barefoot on stage for an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Dec. 5.
On the episode, Jolie revealed to the late night host the explanation behind her unique footwear choice — or lack thereof.
Fallon’s first question addressed her lack of shoes. “I noticed that you’re barefoot. Did you forget your shoes?” he asked.
She told the host, “I broke my toe yesterday. And I tried to find a comfortable shoe, but I just decided…” Her sentence trailed off, but the choice she made was evident. With or without shoes, she made a statement in an elegant high-neck black gown which aligned with the sophisticated outfits she’s been wearing lately.
Fallon had no complaints about her barefoot look: “No, You don’t have to wear shoes. Just be comfortable. We’re just happy you’re here.”
This episode of “The Tonight Show” marked her first late night appearance in more than a decade. She discussed her buzzy new film “Maria,” in which she stars as opera singer Maria Callas, as well as her Broadway show “The Outsiders,” which she produced. The show took home the Tony for best musical this year.
Before her injury limited her footwear choices, Jolie had made a myriad of work-related appearances in striking heels, including several pairs from Aquazzura. She was honored with the Performer Tribute award at the Gotham Awards on Monday, Dec. 2, dressing up in a vintage black gown and Aquazzura’s gleaming La Nuit Sandal Plateau 140. She’s also worn platform Aquazzura sandals to the New York Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival this year.
The brand is quite popular amongst celebrities, whether it’s Jolie or Meghan Marke modeling the luxury shoes. Aquazzura’s creative director Edgardo Osorio was honored with the Designer of the Year award at the 38th annual Footwear News Achievement Awards in New York City on Dec. 4.
