Exclusive: Law Roach Talks Sustainable Fashion & Happiness at CFDA Fashion Awards 2023
Law Roach exuded joy at the 2023 CFDA Fashion Awards — which the former stylist, who virally retired in March, attributed to his own independence.
“I just felt like I’m living my life for me now,” Roach exclusively told FN on the red carpet. “Now I just feel like I’m finally living for me, because I just poured so much into what I did and my clients and, sleepless nights and chasing, FedExing dresses — and I’m not doing that right now. I’m not saying that I may never do it again. But right now, these last eight months I’ve been soul-searching and just…the only way I can say it is I’m truly, purely happy.”
During the Awards, which celebrate the accomplishments of designers, celebrities and more in the American fashion industry, Roach made a dynamic statement in a Luar coat dress, Calvin Klein briefs and reptilian boots while embracing his new career era. Alongside his bold fashion moment, the FNAA-winning star also shared his appreciation for sustainability in fashion.

“I’m proud of the kids thrifting and wearing vintage clothing and that being a trend, and everybody’s not rushing out to buy something new,” Roach said. “I’ve been championing archival dresses and vintage dresses for so long and so heavily in my career, and now I feel like it’s at the forefront of fashion — and I just love it. Upcycling and recycling, I think that’s the easiest way to be sustainable.”
The CFDA Awards honor American designers and brands that are members of the Council of Fashion Designers of America. This year, the organization’s annual event will be held in partnership with Amazon Fashion in New York City. Anne Hathaway will serve as host of the star-studded occasion.
