Punk designer and British-fashion heavyweight Dame Vivienne Westwood is the latest designer to take home the Savannah College Art and Design Andre Leon Talley Lifetime Achievement Award.
The fashion designer will receive the award at the annual SCAD fashion show on Friday, May 15 and will also stay for a public conversation about her work as both an activist and designer.
“In honoring Dame Westwood, SCAD pays tribute to an apotheosis of fashion and culture. Every day student and alumni look to innovators like Westwood for inspiration and precedents that stretch the bounds of possibility,” said SCAD president and founder Paula Wallace in a statement.
In addition to the award, the SCAD Museum of Art will open an exhibit featuring Westwood’s iconic footwear and fashions on May 19. Fashion editor Andre Leon Talley is curating the 25-piece show.
