Time has revealed its 100 Most Influential People of 2016, and there are many ties to the fashion, athletic and footwear communities. Each person on the list receives a write-up from another influential person who knows him or her closely.
Where to begin? Two of Under Armour’s top athletes — Jordan Spieth and Stephen Curry — made the list. Spieth, the 22-year-old golf sensation, won his first major at the 2015 Masters Tournament. Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo wrote that Spieth is “the standard by which our heroes should be measured.”
Fellow Under Armour athlete, ballerina Misty Copeland, wrote that Golden State Warriors star Curry has unprecedented skills and that his “amazing sense of the moment allow[s] him to fearlessly lead his record-setting team by simultaneously fitting in and standing out.”
Tina Fey wrote that Reebok-sponsored UFC fighter Ronda Rousey could be “the one to finally help us understand that as females, we define the word feminine and that it doesn’t define us.”

According to musician Ziggy Marley, the Puma-sponsored Jamaican track star Usain Bolt is someone that “an entire generation can look up to … he’s a unifying force.”
Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci got a ringing endorsement from fellow designer Donatella Versace, who said that Tisci is one of the most important people in fashion right now and that he is “so brave and fearless, I sometimes think he must have Versace blood somewhere in his body.”
Toms Shoes founder Blake Mycoskie wrote about actress Charlize Theron’s work in southern Africa with her Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project. While many celebrities know how to raise awareness, said Mycoskie, Theron is different.
“The work she’s doing is important, but the way she goes about it, by building kids’ self-esteem, is just as valuable,” he said.
United Nude co-founder and architect Rem Koolhaas spoke to Time about fellow architect Bjarke Ingels. Ingels, a native of Denmark, is currently working on major projects including Google’s new Silicon Valley headquarters and Two World Trade Center in New York.
“He is the embodiment of a fully fledged new typology, which responds perfectly to the current zeitgeist,” wrote Koolhaas. “Bjarke is the first major architect who disconnected the profession completely from angst.”
Designer Marc Jacobs spoke fondly of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, while Diane von Furstenberg discussed model Karlie Kloss’ success in the industry as well as all the philanthropy causes she’s involved in.
