Spring Trend: Workboots Get Comfy and High-Tech

When it comes to fashion and technology workboot manufacturers have no intention of getting left behind. For spring ’17, iconic brands such as Danner and Thorogood and newer labels that include Goodyear and Carhartt are infusing their products with tech-driven safety and comfort features.

While boots in basic brown continue to dominate the market, there are now trend-driven styles influenced by the sneaker market. Since many younger workers are accustomed to the flexibility and cushioning of athletic shoes, more and more workbook brands are adding these elements to core performance looks.

The comfort story is getting an update with gel-infused insoles from Skechers and Oliver 25’s cushioned footbeds. But the comfort doesn’t stop there. Safety toes, typically done in steel, are being updated in  composite versions that are lightweight without sacrificing safety standards. These updated materials also keep the temperature inside boots even, since they don’t heat up in the warmer temperatures or get cold in the winter months. And they easily pass through a metal detector.

Part of the comfort story is waterproofing, a trend borrowed from the outdoor market. With Gore-Tex and proprietary waterproofing systems, it’s easy to stay dry on the job. Add a slip-resistant lightweight outsole and the comfort factor is maximized.
