Season after season, Prada has been a key player in deciding the big shoe trends that will dominate the future. From the pre-pandemic apocalyptic boot (maybe Miuccia knew something we didn’t know?) to this fall’s 3D floral kitten heels, the Italian fashion brand has always recognized the impact of footwear in driving new trends, creating memorable looks — and merchandising the category to sell as must-have items.
So it’s likely that Prada’s latest offering will be also be a key driver in determining which shoe trends rise to the top come next spring.
Chief among the footwear that walked the runway at Prada’s spring ’24 show on Thursday at Milan Fashion Week was the pump. That’s no surprise, given that the silhouette has dominated the brand’s shoe category for the past few seasons. It’s also noticeably a preferred footwear style for Raf Simons, who has been co-designing the collections with Miuccia Prada since 2020.
The pumps came in traditional shapes, in full coverage from heel to elongated toe, and also some mule styles, which were done either in kitten heels with slightly squared-off toes or pointy-toed options decorated with matching satin buttons along a front strap. Some of the heels were even finished on the bottom in the satin finish.
Paired with a series of floaty, almost liquid-like organza dresses, the brightly colored footwear gave the collection a sense of optimism — though they were also paired with plenty of all-black looks, which dominated nearly half of the lineup. For the thoroughly stoic, the brand also offered a pair of square-toed lace-up brogues, similar to the men’s styles that have walked the runway for a number of seasons now.
