Met Museum Manus x Machina
Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel. Wedding ensemble, fall/winter 2014–15 haute couture.
Met Museum/Nicholas Alan Cope

The Met’s Costume Institute has revealed more information about its spring exhibition, “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology,” this week.

The new exhibition opens on May 5 and will be celebrated at the annual Met Gala on May 2, where Idris Elba, Jonathan Ive, Taylor Swift, and Anna Wintour are heading up this year’s event. This time around the Met curators have gathered items dating back to the 19th century to chart how technology has affected not just production, but how we wear and interact with our garments through tech.

Here are a few things to look for in the new exhibit:

– There are over 100 haute couture and ready-to-wear pieces in the show.

– The oldest item is a Worth gown dating to the 1880s.
