Iris Apfel admits she didn’t know what emojis were — until now.
The fashion icon has teamed up with Macy’s on a smartphone keyboard designed by Snaps with input from Apfel that includes stickers, GIFs and emojis of Apfel, her signature quotes and items from her collection Iris Meets I.N.C. collection at Macy’s.
“I’m a little old for emojis and I didn’t know what they were,” said Apfel. “But everyone seems to like them, and I want everyone to have a good time. If my face makes people happy, I’m all for it.”
Macy’s also shot Apfel for a coordinating ad campaign in which she wears pieces from her collection, which will be available in September. Nancy Slavin, senior vice president of marketing for Macy’s Merchandising Group, said Macy’s has never done emojis before.
“Iris has collaborated with other fashion brands in recent years, so we wanted to take a fresh approach,” said Slavin. “She’s an icon whose appeal spans multiple generations, and we see these emojis as a fun way to amplify the campaign through mobile first. Her fans are going to go crazy!”
The emojis are free to download on iOS and Android through the Apple App and Google Play stores.
