Aside from the game itself, Super Bowl commercials are one of the most talked about features of the evening. And with millions of viewers glued to their televisions, it’s prime time for advertising.
In 2011, Kim Kardashian appeared in a commercial for Skechers Shape-Ups — sneakers that the brand said would help customers tone their bodies and get in shape.
The ad — filled with sexual innuendo — shows Kardashian “breaking up” with her personal trainer, claiming she doesn’t need him anymore, thanks to Skechers Shape-Ups.
The following year, Skechers faced a major lawsuit that ended up costing it $40 million after the Federal Trade Commission said the company deceived customers by making “unfounded claims” about the Shape-Ups and other toning shoes in its line. Skechers agreed to pay up, but maintained that its advertising was appropriate.
While Kardashian is no longer with the brand, it does have other celebs on board, including Meghan Trainor and Demi Lovato.
