Collaboration alert. Billy Reid once again partnered with K-Swiss for his runway shoes this season, where he debuted his fall ’16 men’s show during New York Fashion Week: Men’s. The two brands, which have been working together since 2011, joined forces on a range of new made-in-America sneakers.
“It all started with an old K-Swiss Surf and Court shoe that I had,” Reid said backstage before his show. “It had holes in it and was torn to shreds, and K-Swiss wasn’t making the shoe at the time. It was obsolete. So we asked to remake it and put our own spin on it.”
Five years later, the athletic brand is still partnering with Reid on his runway footwear. This season, the shoes — brown and tan suede leather low-tops, which match the line’s neutral color aesthetic — were handmade by the manufacturer Minor Brothers Boot & Shoe. These collabo sneakers were paired against Reid’s own runway shoes, which included suede boots and simple slip-ons.

As for the ready-to-wear, easy luxe fabrications were key. We saw ponyhair and shearling jackets, chunky turtlenecks, slouchy oversized wool pants, quilted puffers.
“We wanted the vibe to be uncomplicated luxury — luxury you can use and wear, and live in,” Reid said. “Our customer has really responded to that, and they’ve been asking for more of it. We used a lot of cashmeres and silks in lighter treatments to give them a little more movement.”
