Beyoncé’s “Beyhive” are known to be a loyal bunch.
So it should come as no surprise that when the music star recently asked her fans to wear silver for the Virgo season leg of her blockbuster Renaissance Tour, they showed up — in a big, sparkly way.
“Virgo season is upon us,” Beyoncé wrote in a note to fans on her Instagram stories and website. “This tour has been such a joy and as we approach the last month, my birthday wish is to celebrate with you wearing your most fabulous silver fashions to the show 8.23 – 9.22. We’ll surround ourselves in a shimmering human disco ball each night. Everybody mirroring each other’s joy, Virgo season together in the House of Chrome. See you there!”
At the artist’s concert at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara outside San Francisco, show goers arrived dripping in metallics, wearing silver everything, from mirrored bustier tops, mini dresses and jackets to crystal fringed cowboy hats. A few even sported actual disco balls on their heads.
Earlier in August, at FedEx Field outside Washington, D.C., the wardrobe was similar, with silver leather pants aplenty, crystal mesh scarf tops and a few crystal studded kimonos.
But among all the metallic wares spotted at the Renaissance Tour, it is the silver boot that has cemented itself as the quintessential Beyhive fashion piece. They run the gamut from slinky mirrored over-the-knees to crystal studded ankle booties, and a silvery Western style has quickly taken over, especially when paired with the aforementioned crystal fringed hat.
Astrologers and fashion experts alike have been diving deeper in the meaning of silver ever since Beyoncé sent out her Virgo season request to fans. Known as a metal that can impact human emotions, silver has long been known to promote peace to its wearers. It is also associated with the moon and Venus, reflecting out positive energy in its mirror-like finish.
The Beyoncé fan wardrobe is not the only mega show starter pack that’s influencing fashion trends. This summer has also seen a parallel — and sometimes overlapping — aesthetic with Taylor Swift’s fans (Swifties seem to prefer a white Western boot or ankle style to the Beyhive’s head to toe silver looks). On a broader scale, the style tendencies of fans attending these mega world tours (Beyoncé and Swift this summer, but also Harry Styles last year) have the power to sway fashion trends and consumer demand in a big way. On TikTok, searches for “silver boots outfit Beyoncé” have garnered more than 31 million views, while Pinterest offers how-tos on creating DIY iridescent fringe boots, a holdover from Beyoncé’s 2019 Coachella performance, affectionately nicknamed “Beychella.”
Queen Bey has been following her own directive too, of course. The Renaissance Tour has included plenty of sparkly metallic looks since its kickoff shows in Stockholm, Sweden, back in May. But after her announcement on August 23 (the start of Virgo season), Beyoncé and her extensive styling team took things up a few notches, debuting looks that were not just head to toe silver but filled with texture, shine and sculpture — and plenty of coordinating jewelry and eyewear along the way. The star has also used the opportunity to tap up-and-coming designers, such as Giuseppe Della Badia of Gedebe, to create custom silver footwear for the occasion.
At the August 26 show at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, the star wore a custom Valentino sequin bodysuit and cape along with matching over-the-knee boots, all the while straddling a giant horse fashioned out of disco ball mirrors — similar to the holographic horse (which fans have dubbed “Reneigh”) that Beyoncé rides on the cover of the “Renaissance” album.
With Beyoncé’s 42nd birthday coinciding with her Monday, Sept. 4 show in Inglewood, Calif. (the last of her three shows there), it’s a sure bet that her silver looks will level up even further. The Renaissance Tour runs through Oct. 1, in Kansas City.
