Under Armour’s athlete roster expansion continues.
One day after announcing the addition of rising WNBA star Nika Mühl, Under Armour revealed on Thursday morning that it has signed college golf standout Kieron van Wyk to a name, image and likeness (NIL) deal. Terms of the deal, however, were not announced.
“Under Armour believed in me and my abilities, which gave me a huge boost of confidence in my game — something that’s crucial for a young professional striving for the next level,” van Wyk told FN. “Their commitment to innovation and performance aligns perfectly with how I approach my craft, and I love the gear — from the athletic fit to the technology that helps me perform at my best. But beyond the products, it’s the culture, the energy and what Under Armour stands for that makes it the perfect brand for me as I continue to grow in my career.”
Though van Wyk, 23, is a senior at the College of Charleston, he has already made history on the golf course. In January, the student-athlete became the first amateur to win an Advocates Professional Golf Association (APGA) Tour event since its inception in 2010.
The student-athlete’s accolades also include a win at the 2022 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship where he became the first Black golfer in the conference’s history to win medalist honors at the tournament. Also, he earned CAA Golfer of the Year honors in 2022 and 2023.
What’s more, van Wyk — a South Africa native — is the first golfer to earn a P-1 visa, which is given to athletes with internationally recognized talent and extraordinary abilities. Because of this, he can compete and benefit from endorsements while maintaining his college career.
He is set to make his PGA Tour debut on Thursday at the Puerto Rico Open. On foot, van Wyk will have the Under Armour UA Drive Fade golf shoes laced up. The highlight of this waterproof and durable look are its midsoles, which are made from the brand’s acclaimed Hovr foam cushioning. There are spiked and spikeless versions of the shoe available via UA.com now, retailing for $130 and $120, respectively.
“Kieron is a fierce competitor with the talent and mindset to make an impact at the next level. He’s fearless, driven and built for the big stage — exactly the kind of athlete who represents Under Armour’s mission to push the game forward and redefine greatness,” Under Armour senior vice president of global sports marketing Sean Eggert told FN. “We’re excited to have him on our roster and can’t wait to see him take his game to new heights in our gear.”
