The Running Event Is Moving to San Antonio in 2025

The Running Event (TRE) has found its new home.

With years of renovations planned for the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas, the longtime home of the annual running industry trade show, TRE will move within the state to San Antonio in 2025.

“Our team is thrilled to be moving to San Antonio in 2025,” TRE event director Christina Henderson said in a statement. “We weighed many options in our search for a new home, and San Antonio was the clear choice. From the convention center and surrounding hotels to the city’s overall atmosphere and energy, San Antonio will welcome our TRE community with open arms.”

The move to San Antonio, TRE explained, will keep the event “in an accessible location while helping ensure a fun, welcoming environment as well as affordability for brands and retailers alike.” TRE further stated San Antonio was a natural choice because of its “robust travel infrastructure, general affordability and ideal size to preserve the intimate feel of the event,” and is large enough “to provide partners with necessary services” and small enough “to maintain the community-based nature that makes TRE such a special trade show.”

“For one week, San Antonio will be the epicenter of the running world,” San Antonio Sports president and chief executive officer Jenny Carnes said in a statement. “We’re thrilled that The Running Event will bring all things running to San Antonio, and we are honored to host them in the Alamo City. The running industry will get to experience unique trails throughout the city and the festive spirit of our downtown during the holidays. There’s no more beautiful time or better place to run.”

Before the move, TRE will host its 2024 event in Austin from Nov. 19-21 at the Austin Convention Center.

“Austin has been a wonderful host to TRE for the last many years, and we can’t wait to hold one more TRE in the city that has been fundamental to the growth of the event and industry,” Henderson said in a statement.

A new home isn’t the only change at TRE. Several brands will attend TRE for the first time in 2024, the trade show confirmed with FN. Teva and Lululemon are among the exhibitors attending TRE for the first time, and leading apparel labels making their debut include Patagonia, Bandit Running Inc., Satisfy and Toad & Co.

“They haven’t experienced TRE before, but their participation speaks to the strength of the industry,” Henderson told FN. “Those brands and many others are coming to The Running Event for the first time because they see the strength in specialty.”

Also, in terms of education, TRE will host a Race Director Summit in partnership with event management platform Race Roster. It will take place on day one, which is dedicated to education. This summit, TRE explained, will allow race management professionals and endurance event managers and planners to both gather and learn.

“TRE brings the people and organizations in the business of running together, and race directors are an important piece of that,” Henderson said. “We’re excited to drive stronger relationships with between race directors and run specialty retailers, who are supporting the same runners in their communities.”
