Relief aid is underway for those impacted by Hurricane Helene, which so far is confirmed to have killed 166 people.
The Two Ten Footwear Foundation — the charity organization dedicated to assisting shoe people in times of need — has activated its protocol for a major disaster response in the wake of Hurricane Helene. According to Two Ten, the deadly storm is shaping up to be one of the largest natural disasters it has responded to in many years.
Hurricane Helene made landfall last Thursday in Florida as a Category 4 storm. Effects of the hurricane followed through to North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia, leaving hundreds of people unaccounted for, over one million without power, and more devastating destruction.
Two Ten said it relief team was tracking the storm before it hit and was prepared for the emergency. Requests for assistance started coming in immediately and continue to increase day by day. The organization has since teamed up with corporate partners for additional support for disaster relief and they working with many employers to expedite relief for their employees. Two Ten also confirmed that it will increase the typical amounts of financial aid awarded based on family size.

Tennessee-based Soles4Souls is also stepping up.
The non-profit said it is working with partners in the areas affected by Hurricane Helene to deliver new shoes and clothing to them as soon as possible. Soles4Souls said its mobilizing to deliver much-needed relief, but while they have the inventory, the organization is currently fundraising to help with the shipping and logistics cost of transporting those items. That charity said it’s facing added disruptions due to the current East and Gulf Coast port strike as well.
