Brooks Running has long called Seattle home. For its latest partnership, the performance running brand has teamed up with another athletic staple of the city: the Seattle Kraken.
On Thursday, the performance running footwear company announced it has become the National Hockey League (NHL) team’s official off-ice performance partner. With this multiyear partnership, Brooks stated it will provide players, coaches and staff with running footwear and apparel “to support the Kraken with premium performance training gear.” What’s more, Brooks stated it will create custom off-ice Kraken gear “for runners and fans alike” in future seasons.
“The Pacific Northwest community values its hometown sports teams and the positive impact athletics have on people’s lives. As the leader in performance running, we’ve been proud to call this area home since 1993,” Brooks chief executive officer Dan Sheridan said in a statement. “We couldn’t be more excited to partner with the Kraken, which has become an incredible tour de force within the Seattle professional sports landscape and throughout the broader community. It’s an honor to align with a like-minded organization to help grow running and sport.”
Brooks confirmed this partnership will begin ahead of the 2024–25 season, which is scheduled to start on Oct. 8 when the Kraken hosts the St. Louis Blues at Climate Pledge Arena. Specifically, Brooks will support the team’s first-ever 5K fun run/walk on Oct. 5, which will take place at Green Lake Park.
The brand stated it will support the race with a cheer zone, Buoy photo booth, treats and more, members of the Brooks Beasts Track Club will participate in a special fundraising challenge. The Beasts will start at the back as part of the challenge, and Brooks will donate $1 to the Kraken Hockey Fights Cancer Fund for every participant each Beast passes as they work their way toward the front. The partnership also connects the brand’s Future Run program team’s One Roof Foundation, according to Brooks, and together they will “will work to increase youth access to sport.”
“We are thrilled to partner with Brooks Running, a brand that is also proud to call Seattle home,” said Seattle Kraken CEO Tod Leiweke said in a statement. “I am proud to add Brooks to the Kraken family and to work with an organization that shares our values and our commitment to our community.”
Aside from the partnership, Brooks also announced that Kraken goalie Joey Daccord has become a player ambassador for the brand.
