Patagonia has a firm stance on climate-denying politicians: get rid of them.

The outdoor apparel company shared a message with its consumers via email on Friday that is now on its website: “Vote Climate Deniers Out of Office.”

“The 2020 US Senate races will have a significant, long-lasting impact on the strength of our nation’s climate policies and the existence of our wild places,” the brand wrote on its website. On a specific landing page — Patagonia.com/elections — it also provided a plan for voters who are focused on climate change as a primary issue.

By entering your address in a provided field, Patagonia will direct you to instructions on how to vote by mail and how to vote in person, which includes finding your polling place. Additionally, the company mentioned senate races to watch with recommendations for candidates by state based on his or her climate change stance.

Aside from its statement via email and online, images of a tag surfaced on social media this weekend with another voting-related message: “Vote the A**holes Out.”

A representative from the brand confirmed that the tags are in fact real and are featured on its Regenerative Organic Stand-Up Shorts. The reason for including the tags on this specific style, Patagonia stated, was because the brand has stood up to climate deniers for almost as long as it has been making the shorts.

Further, the brand stated Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard has used the phrase “Vote the A**holes Out” for several years regarding politicians — regardless of political party affiliation — “who deny or disregard the climate crisis and ignore science, not because they aren’t aware of it, but because their pockets are lined with money from oil and gas interests.”
