Nostalgia has hit a nerve this summer in fashion, and now it’s bringing flip flop heels back into style.
While the ’90s had its fair share of sandal platforms, these thong high heels we are seeing have a much slimmer profile complete with a thin heel and straps. Reminiscent of the early 2000s, the shoe is bringing back the contentious style into the spotlight.

This fashion-faux pas style also arrives while the element of “camp,” is trending thanks to this year’s exhibit and gala for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute based on Susan Sontag’s essay “Camp: Notes on Fashion.”
It’s safe to say that Sontag would group flip flop heels of the early 2000s as camp because, as she implies in her essay, it’s so good because it’s awful.
