I Hate Running, But These Are 4 Running Shoes I Like — And You Will Too

Working out centers me, it gives a sense of accomplishment and I always feel great leaving the gym. However, I do not enjoy running. It feels more like a chore and I likely wouldn’t do it if I didn’t love pizza so much.

What does get me excited to run is a new pair of sneakers. And lately, there are four models that I find myself lacing up more often than others.

Here are the running shoes from Asics, Under Armour, Saucony and Brooks that I’ve been enjoying wearing on the road and treadmill.

Asics Gel-Nimbus 21

Out of my four favorite styles available online today, this and the Brooks selection have the closest ground feel, which I enjoy because often an oversized midsole makes me feel like I’m running on stilts. And even though the Gel-Nimbus 21 has a low profile, the cushioning was not sacrificed (thanks to Asics’ acclaimed Gel and FlyteFoam techs). I also like how secure my foot feels and how deep my heel sits in the shoe.

Saucony Ride ISO 2

I first ran in a Saucony running shoe boasting Everun cushioning tech in 2017 (the Triumph ISO 3) and I’ve been a fan of the innovation ever since. I’ve used this shoe for longer runs recently and because its so soft underfoot, my feet have not been sore once (which has often dissuaded me from running). I also feel pain on the side of my foot from time to time, but the Isofit upper tech has adapted to my foot shape well and I haven’t had an issue yet.

Under Armour UA Hovr Infinite

Historically, Under Armour isn’t a brand automatically associated with running, given its success in training, cleated sports and basketball. But I noticed the label’s success in running start to turn years ago when it delivered the UA SpeedForm Gemini 3. The UA Hovr Infinite is Under Armour’s best running style yet with its great out of the box feel and plush cushioning. Also, I often avoid lacing shoes to the top to avoid ankle irritation, but that’s not necessary with the Infinite because the tongues are well cushioned and prevent any discomfort.

Brooks Launch 6

The Launch 6 wins with simplicity and proves that you don’t need a ton of tech and extras to make a great shoe. It’s extremely lightweight, thanks in large part to its one-piece mesh upper, which makes it easier and more enjoyable to run longer distances than I’m used to. Also, its BioMoGo DNA midsole ensures a soft landing throughout my run (which my feet are thankful for). And because it doesn’t have tons of bells and whistles the price is accessible to most ($100).
