Update, 8 p.m.: Police said 20 people have been killed and 26 are wounded following the mass shooting.
Multiple people have been killed after a shooting at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, today, officials said.
According to the El Paso Police Department, a 21-year-old suspect, identified as a white male, is in custody.
The incident occurred during a Saturday when many families were shopping at Walmart for the back-to-school season. Reports said there were as many as 3,000 people in the store at the time of the shooting.
“We’re in shock over the tragic events at Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso, where store 2201 & club 6502 are located,” said a Walmart statement posted on Twitter. “We’re praying for the victims, the community & our associates, as well as the first responders. We’re working closely with law enforcement and will update as appropriate.”

This is the second fatal shooting this week at a Walmart location. On Tuesday, a disgruntled employee at a Mississippi store killed two co-workers and injured a police officer.

“The entire Walmart family is heartbroken by the loss of two valued members of our team,” said Greg Foran, president and CEO of Walmart U.S. after the earlier shooting. “We feel tragedies personally, and our hearts go out to the families of our two associates and the officer who was injured.”
