Update (Oct. 31, 8:45 a.m. ET)

Following comments made on Twitter yesterday, Steve Madden is issuing a social media mea culpa.

Last night, the designer took to the social platform once again — this time calling for a ceasefire. The tweet came a day after his namesake brand responded to Nicki Minaj‘s claim that she passed up a deal with the company, which then approached rival rapper Cardi B last year.

“[Nicki Minaj] is an incredibly talented artist but we couldn’t work together cuz the timing wasn’t right,” the designer went on to say about the performers. “[Cardi B] came on the scene and I had a fantastic collaboration with her, and she is also an amazing talent. I love… both [Nicki Minaj] and [Cardi B] music. I hope they can reach some peace — together they could probably take over the world.”

Madden added: “There is a lot of negativity out there right now, and I shouldn’t have contributed to that.”

What We Reported Earlier (Oct. 30, 1:30 p.m. ET)

Steve Madden is seldom one to hold back. And as it turns out, neither is Steve Madden the brand.

In a Twitter war that took place Monday night, Nicki Minaj alleged that she turned down a deal with the footwear founder before Cardi B was approached last year. Steve Madden was quick to offers its two cents. Tagging the “Queen” rapper, the shoe label tweeted: “You can’t turn down an offer that was never made. #StopLying.”

This comes after Cardi B took aim at Minaj’s new Diesel partnership in an Instagram rant that spanned 10 videos. “That Diesel deal that you got?” Cardi B asked during one clip. “Yeah, that came to me first. And I had to decline it because I’m already working with fashion brands,” she continued.

Minaj responded with her claim that Steve Madden offered her a deal first. “Irv Gotti asked me to do that deal several times,” she tweeted. “I passed. You never hear me talking bout things like this. she rlly thought she was doing smthn talking about turning down deals. BWAAAAAHAHAAAHAHAHAAAAA.”

By the end of last night, the two rappers appeared to agree to call a truce, but that was before Madden chimed in and called Minaj a liar.
