The show: At Paris Fashion Week today, Virgil Abloh‘s Off-White continued its buzzy forward momentum for spring ’17. The label, which alongside Vetements, V-Files and Jacquemus is reinventing contemporary Parisian fashion. It helped that his frequent collaborator Kanye West and wife Kim Kardashian West sat front row (on blue sponge cubes, no less) to support the designer’s zeitgeist-y show.
The shoes: Abloh has the talent and nerve to play the notions of bad taste to witty effect. Ergo tube socks and sheet hosiery styled with open-toe stilettos — in clashing red and magenta, no less. There were also open-toe booties worn with silver sequin socks. And tall leather-stacked boots done in a clinical (not off) white. Red low-top sneakers and matching gym socks rounded out the offering.
The verdict: High-low dressing done appealingly well. By combining starchy ruffled shirting and silk pleated dresses with trainers (and on the flip side, hoodies or utility-inspired garb with serious heels), Off-White was very much on the mark.
