J.W. Anderson Sends Androgynous Footwear Down the Runway at London Fashion Week
Jonathan Anderson’s spring 2017 outing channelled a sense of fluidity; he wanted to create a calm, serene feel through the clothing, which featured ruched tops in rainbow colors and feminine midi skirts with handkerchief hems on Saturday at London Fashion Week.
The footwear, on the other hand, had a tougher feel with masculine lace-up military boots in a neutral palette of camels and navy blues, which created strong juxtapositions when paired with the soft, linen skirts.
Brogues also featured heavily in different variations, with highlights including color-block pairs with textured check panels, as well as painted leather ones in bold, abstract patterns, reflective of the designer’s love of art.

Known for adding his own perverse touches on classic shapes, Anderson also reworked the ballerina for spring, using soft leather to create glove-like structures.
“I was into this idea of a broken flat shoe; something that looked like it was lifting off the back, like a ballerina went wrong and it was tore off the back of it. Something calm. Tranquil,” he said.
