Alessandro Sartori is continuing his Berluti revamp. The creative director of the 120-year-old heritage brand once again debuted a more youthful, less-stiff men’s collection in Paris this season. Out with the bankers and in with the downtown crew.
Sartori collaborated with tattoo artist Scott Campbell this season, transferring his snake tattoo designs onto shoes and bags. Applied overtop classic leather oxfords cut from one piece of leather — Berluti is a luxury shoe brand first and foremost, after all — the tattoos injected much-needed spunk to its traditional shapes. Some of the designs were inked so dark one could barely tell they were even there.
Colors were experimented with, though. Lavender suits were paired with the same colored leather oxfords, which had wooden midsoles and lug soles. Sportier styles, like a lace-up brogue with sneaker sole, had splashes of aqua blue.
Other flourishes in the collection included laceless oxfords with crisscross leather straps to secure the foot, as well as pointy leather loafers with rose gold metallic accents. The perfect blends of the old and the new.
