Gucci’s Fur-Lined Loafers Are A Street Style Favorite In Milan

Gucci’s fur-lined loafers first appeared on the runway a year ago in Milan for fall ’15. At the time, Gucci was in the middle of some major changes—designer Frida Giannini exited the brand, as did her partner and the brand’s chief executive, Patrizio di Marco.
Alessandro Michele, who was Gucci’s accessory designer at the time, and others stepped in to help that show go on. Michele was later appointed designer.
Since then, the house has catapulted into a new era and had a major street style hit on their hands with the fur loafers, seen on both men and women during the spring ’16 shows in September and October. The shoes, offered in both a loafer and slide style, feature Gucci’s signature horse bit detail and fur to keep toes toasty, while still making a sartorial statement.
Milan Men’s Fashion Week has just wrapped, and FN spotted plenty of attendees wearing pairs. It seems the consensus is to wear the shoes with wide-legged pants in both solids and prints.

One man stood out in ultra-bright red pants and his Gucci slides, topping his look off with a black overcoat that didn’t compete with the lower half of his ensemnble. Another show-goer went with a Gucci-on-Gucci look, wearing fur loafers with the brand’s oriental screen-printed pants.
Gucci is continuing the fur loafer momentum with its fall ’16 collection. Michele sent new takes on the loafers down the runway, including pairs done in plaid, dots and floral brocade.
With Paris and New York men’s fashion weeks up next, this likely isn’t the last we’ll see of these shoes.
