Puma‘s hit collaboration with Rihanna has resulted in a big boost in sales and publicity for the athletic brand. But as the German label ups its profile on the fashion scene, it’s also developing a stronger focus on fitness training for women.
And who better to share the message than the woman who keeps Rihanna looking fit.
Meet trainer-to-the-stars Jamie Granger, the L.A. fitness guru who travels the globe with Rihanna building exercise routines for the singer. She’s also one of the new brand ambassadors for Puma’s women’s training collection, which consists of workout pants, tops, bras and sneakers in bright, bold colors and patterns.
Granger told Footwear News that her favorite shoes from the brand are the Ignite XTs. “Not only are they great for circuit training and lifting, they also have great support for running,” she said.
Puma’s spring ’16 women’s collection also includes new colorways for the Pulse XT sneaker, which is made for agility training. That style is available now on Puma.com and in major sporting goods stores for $70. The Ignite XTs, meanwhile, are priced at $90.
Watch on FN
Granger said she’s also a fan of the Puma apparel from way back. “I have some of their retro jackets in my closet that I pull out from time to time,” she said. “I’ve been shopping at Puma for almost two decades because I love their stuff.”
But it’s not only about the product for Granger, who told FN that working with Puma gives her the opportunity to share her vast knowledge and inspire others to live a healthier life. And she’s seen a few benefits herself. “Working with Puma has been amazing. I’ve been able to experience more growth as a trainer and push myself to new limits, given this platform.”
So when it comes to training techniques, what does Granger favor? “I like to mix the old with the new to keep it fresh. I don’t get much into fads.”
And while Granger was mum about whether any Rihanna tunes are on her workout play list, she did offer a few suggestions on how to get fired up. “I’ll play rock music for heavy lifting, or high-intensity dance music for circuit-training and cardio.”
