Puma’s Disc lacing system is legendary and the staple of some of the brand’s iconic silhouettes, which has resonated with athletes and sneakerheads alike. The Germany-based brand is set to release a reimaged iteration of its renowned technology by incorporating it on a modern sneaker franchise.
The brand will deliver to retail this month the Puma Ignite Disc Sleeve, placing its Disc system on the Ignite’s sleek, contemporary upper.
The Disc system, which was launched in 1991, utilized a plastic disc on the tongue that tightened the shoe by pulling internal wires when the disc was rotated. The technology was featured on everything from running shoes to court shoes, and is still seen on the market today in a classic sneakerhead favorite, the Disc Blaze.
The shoe also uses its modern proprietary cushioning platform, Ignite Foam, an energy returning compound featured on many of the brand’s most recent performance shoes.
To bring the old and new technologies together, the brand modified them to create the Ignite Disc Sleeve, including a slimmer Disc system paired with a minimalist upper for a snug fit.
