Puma AG began construction Friday on a new building at its global headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany. CEO Bjorn Gulden was joined for the groundbreaking by FIFA soccer stars Nadine Kessler and Lothar Matthäus, as well as more than 80 other guests.
The new six-story administrative building will be erected across the road from the existing PumaVision Headquarters. It will contain about 14,000 square meters of office space (or 150,694 square feet) and house roughly 550 employees once it is completed in spring 2018.
To connect the new building with the existing Puma offices, the company has commissioned Nuremberg-based architecture firm Klaus Krex to create an 278-foot-long pedestrian bridge spanning the Hans-Ort-Ring roadway.

Gulden said in a statement, “The construction of our new administrative building is a further clear commitment to our roots in Herzogenaurach. With modern office spaces and an extension of our sports offering, we will be able to provide attractive working conditions to our employees, while fostering our dynamic corporate culture as a sports brand and underlining our role as one of the leading employers in the region.”
The new administrative building will be designed to have light-flooded open-plan offices with a floor-to-ceiling window front. It also will contain a 5,300-sq.-ft. employee gym, as well as a volleyball and basketball court and large multifunctional sports area.
And in keeping with Puma’s sustainability ethos, the building will adhere to strict environmental standards. The company said that a modern concrete core temperature control will ensure sustainable heating and cooling, and rinsing water will be fed by a cistern containing rainwater. Puma also intends to provide charging stations for electric vehicles.
