When you see Nike’s latest Air Max Plus release, the theme song to “Jaws” will immediately get stuck in your head.
The athletic giant has a pair of iterations of the shoe — which debuted in 1998 — dubbed “La Requin,” which is French for “The Shark.” Slated to arrive tomorrow, the Mineral Teal and Turbo Green colorways of the NikeLab Air Max Plus La Requin — also referred to as Le Requin — will retail for $175 each and drop on SNKRS at 10 a.m. ET.
According to the brand, the shoe in its original Hyper Blue colorway was nicknamed La Requin across France for its color-gradient upper that resembles a shark’s texture. To embody the nickname, Nike delivered an iteration of the shoe with modern construction that boasts colors and graphics inspired by the apex predator. The graphic on the shoe’s upper resembles a water shadow over a shark’s body, and the white gradient below the graphic mimics a shark’s belly, Nike explained.
