Red alert: You can order a pair of Yeezy sneakers on Walmart’s website.
The retail giant currently lists new Nike Air Yeezy 2 kicks in the “Red October” colorway for $6,499 online, but the footwear is not actually carried by the store. Instead, it’s sold through Walmart.com’s digital marketplace — an intermediary portal similar to marketplaces on Amazon and eBay — where sneaker reseller Sole-unlimited.com has listed the posting, among other online outlets to help facilitate the sale.
Walmart.com boasts more than 15 million items, including footwear, apparel and electronics. Its marketplace platform launched in 2009 and it includes a vetting of all sellers to “ensure that they can maintain the highest level of customer satisfaction,” a representative for the Walmart told Footwear News. “They are responsible for the fulfillment and customer service.”
The bright red sneakers are available in size 8.5 and come with its original box, as well as “all accessories associated with the release,” according to the listing. The original receipt is also included.
Last year, according to online trading platform StockX, the “Red October” iteration of the Nike Air Yeezy 2 sold for as much as $15,000.
Rapper-designer Kanye West‘s sneakers originally retailed for $250 when they debuted in 2014. After ending his partnership with Nike, one year later his first Yeezy line with Adidas was released.
West’s Yeezys are a major force in the $1.2 billion resale market. Speaking to Footwear News in a previous interview, musician and sneakerhead DJ Khaled attributed the Yeezy appeal to its design.
“The sneakers Kanye made [are] groundbreaking,” he said. “When they come out, you can’t get them [anymore] because they’re sold out. They’re like art.”
