After missing the playoffs last season, Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder are poised to make a postseason run this year as one of the top teams in the NBA’s Western Conference. The Nike-sponsored athlete will have a new shoe to choose from to wear throughout the playoff pursuit.
The Beaverton, Ore.-based athletic brand unveiled the KD8 Elite today. The shoe, the brainchild of acclaimed designer by Leo Chang, boasts a calf-length compression sock, full-length visible Zoom Air cushioning and Flywire technology with Kevlar aramid fiber.
“Transitioning from a low to high is a decision we made with confidence based on our ongoing feedback from Durant to always push the limit on innovative design,” Chang said in a statement. “The KD8 Elite is conceptually designed to blur the lines between the shoe, sock and tight; seamlessly transitioning between each so you can’t differentiate where one begins and the other ends.”
Benefits of the shoe, according to Nike, include enhanced support supplied by its crew-length compression sock, a responsive ride provided by the Zoom Air cushioning, and superior lockdown from the Flywire technology with Kevlar.

The shoe arrives on April 14 globally in white, May 5 in gray, and May 26 in black.
