Athletic giant Nike and renowned New York-based skate boutique Homegrown Skateshop have teamed up on a collaboration using the SB Dunk High Premium silhouette, inspired by the New York city of Ithaca.
The Nike Dunk High Premium SB Homegrown hits select skate shops and the brand’s website on Saturday and will retail for $120. A special edition wooden box package will be available only at Homegrown on a first-come, first-served basis on Jan. 8, beginning at 10 a.m.
Both Nike and Homegrown Skateshop, according to the brand, agreed that the shoe needs to look and feel like it was built to be at home in the outdoors. The shoe’s look is reminiscent of Ithaca’s seemingly endless amount of trees, trails and wilderness. It uses rugged full pig suede for its upper and hiker laces, giving it a feeling that it belongs on the trails, with artwork on the footbed created by a friend to Homegrown’s ownership, Jesse Hill.
The shoe uses distinctive color blocking to illustrate its nod to the Ithaca outdoors, using a color palette of sequoia, ale brown, and cool gray. The shoe’s upper is predominately sequoia, but features ale brown on the heel panel and toecap, and boasts cool gray swoosh branding. The shoe also features a white midsole and gum outsole. Homegrown’s tree branding can be seen on the shoe’s heel and on the tongue.
