Twitter Had a Lot to Say About Nick Young’s New Adidas Sneakers

Social media has proven to be pretty ruthless when it comes to basketball sneakers. In June, people couldn’t help but roast Stephen Curry’s Under Armour “Chef” shoes. Then in August, images surfaced of a rumored James Harden Adidas signature model, which was promptly torn apart on Twitter. The latest player to set sneaker Twitter ablaze is none other than “Swaggy P,” Nick Young.

After Nice Kicks unveiled Young’s player exclusive Adidas Crazy Explosive colorway (above) on Saturday, Twitter started buzzing almost immediately. However, unlike the overwhelmingly negative reactions to Curry’s Under Armour shoes and Harden’s Adidas model, opinions seem to be split on Young’s shoe.

Instead of lambasting the Crazy Explosive’s design, most people were surprised that Adidas chose Young — who averaged fewer than 10 points and 20 minutes per game playing for the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2015-16 NBA season — to receive a player exclusive colorway of one of its premier sneakers.

It’s important to note that unlike Curry and Harden’s shoes, this Crazy Explosive isn’t a signature shoe for Young. Instead, it’s a special colorway that’s been branded with his logo on the tongue. As of Oct. 11, Young’s white-and-gray Primeknit colorway of the Adidas Crazy Explosive is still available from adidas.com for $150
