DJ Khaled made an appearance at House of Hoops by Foot Locker on Tuesday night in New York City. In line with the retailer’s new flagship store opening at 112 W. 34th St. earlier in the day, the Snapchat personality caused a fan frenzy while promoting the exclusive early release of the Air Jordan 1 and Air Jordan 31 “Banned.”
From atop a double-decker vehicle and holding a microphone, DJ Khaled greeted the crowd with shouts of “Fan love!” and “Jordan fan love!” Once inside the packed store, he handed out sneakers, signed his new album, “Major Key,” and posed for photos.
The Air Jordan 1 and 31 are set for the official (and much-anticipated) release this weekend. Nike has confirmed that the Air Jordan 1 High OG “Banned” will be available online exclusively through The Draw raffle on the brand’s SNKRS app on Saturday.
The coveted sneaker was banned by then-NBA commissioner David Stern on Oct. 18, 1985, for violating the league’s uniform regulations, leading Nike to launch a marketing campaign stating that while Jordan can’t wear them during games, “the NBA can’t stop you from wearing them.”
The Air Jordan 31 is a representation of Jordan Brand’s balance of performance and fashion, giving lightweight support to athletes while offering off-court sensibilities. The shoe, which was heavily inspired by the “Banned” Air Jordan 1, boasts a full-length Zoom Air unit, and its Flyweave technology blends seamlessly into leather heel.
