Adidas is giving one last shoutout to Chicago on behalf of Derrick Rose before he heads to the New York Knicks for the 2016-17 season.
Rose, who played for the Chicago Bulls since he was drafted into the NBA in 2008, is also a native of the city. His latest Adidas signature shoe, the D Rose 7, pays homage to Chicago — particularly the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.
“Chicago’s always been my home, and this shoe represents the city that made me the man I am today,” said Rose. “From how I play the game, how I live my life and how it’s prepared me for my next step in New York. It’s the perfect tribute to the city and fans that helped raise and support me. It’s built for my game and gives me an added incentive knowing that I’m carrying my city with me on every play.”
Much of the design is inspired by smoke rising from the ashes, including the shoe’s herringbone traction that allows for maximum grip.
“With the D Rose 7, we’re ensuring that Derrick’s hometown is never far from him on and off the court,” said Brian Foresta, vice president of global design for Adidas basketball. “His perseverance and passion to rise above every challenge is what makes him special, so we focused on bringing that to life.”
Technical features include a full-length Boost midsole for comfort and energy return and increased lockdown support for a socklike fit and stability.
The D Rose 7, which retails for $160, will drop on Aug. 11 in Solar Red. Smoke Gray will be available on Aug. 13, Hydration on Sept. 16, black on Oct. 1 and white on Oct. 15.
