Kanye West Promised Basketball Kicks, But He’s Delivering Football Cleats
Kanye West isn’t a force on the basketball court, but he promised in June that performance Yeezy basketball shoes will arrive sometime in 2017. He isn’t a professional football player, either, but his shoes are starting to appear on the gridiron.
To kick off the NFL season on Thursday night, Adidas athlete and leader of the Denver Broncos defense Von Miller wore a field-ready iteration of the Yeezy Boost 750 (but changed into an Adidas Freak style). Miller is not the only player who laces up the three stripes in the NFL that will sport a Yeezy style, however.
DeAndre Hopkins, star receiver for the Houston Texans, will lace up a football cleat version of the Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 when his season begins on Sunday, when he and the Texans host the Chicago Bears. The fourth-year player out of Clemson posted on his personal Instagram account on Friday an image of a cleat version of the “Turtledove” colorway of the Adidas Yeezy Boost 350. The photo was also posted on Instagram by renowned Adidas designer Marc Dolce.

Yeezys aren’t foreign to the professional sports arena. Los Angeles Lakers small forward Nick Young — better known by his nickname, “Swaggy P” — wore the Adidas Yeezy Boost 750 in a game against the Houston Rockets in December.

Adrian Peterson, star running back of the Minnesota Vikings, also has a pair of Yeezy cleats. The NFL veteran posted his pair of Adidas Yeezy Boost 350 “Turtle Dove” cleats to Instagram after press time.
