The race was on today for a pair of the new Converse One Star ’74 Fragment Design sneakers.
As part of Converse’s partnership with Fragment Design, founded by Tokyo-based street-culture icon Hiroshi Fujiwara, the limited-edition sneakers sold out following today’s launch.
The collection featured unique Fragment Design detailing, such as Fujiwara’s signature midsole branding and labeling. It is combined with modern construction details celebrating the first and original One Star sneaker, an early skateboarding classic from 1974.
The recrafted Converse One Star ’74 design utilizes hairy suede uppers, with an organic cotton Star logo and the iconic Fragment Design thunderbolt branding highlighted on the heel stay in volt green. They also featured drop-in Lunarlon sock liners for added cushioning. The shoes are offered in two classic color ways: white and blue. The sneakers were part of Converse First String, a limited-edition collection that celebrates craftsmanship, authenticity and collaboration at the highest level.
Fujiwara describes himself as a “cultural DJ” and has earned the reputation of the Godfather of Harajuku — the Shibuya district he’s credited as transforming through his work in youth lifestyle and streetwear. Fujiwara has also worked with Nike.
The shoes retailed for $100 and were available on the Converse website. Its not known whether Converse will restock the sneakers.
