With baseball season finally underway, Concepts is conjuring the longstanding rivalry between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox for its “City Rivalry Pack” with New Balance.
For the latest collaboration of the renowned retailer’s 20th anniversary celebration, the pack uses New Balance’s 997 and 998 silhouettes.
First up to bat is the New York City edition of the Concepts x New Balance “City Rivalry” 997, which arrives at the retailer’s location in New York’s Tribeca neighborhood – and via its website – on Saturday and retails for $240. The shoe features teal premium suede on its upper, a pebbled leather reflective tongue and a Concepts-branded footbed. The color palette is inspired by the original team logo adopted in 1909.
In the on-deck circle is the Boston-themed shoe, the Concepts x New Balance “City Rivalry” 998, which arrives April 11 and retails for $220. The shoe will be available on Concepts’ website as of April 16. The shoe will be sold at the retailer’s Cambridge, Mass., location as well as a pop-up shop at ’47 Brand, 19 Yawkey Way in Boston. The shoe’s color palette is inspired by the legendary Fenway Park, featuring premium rust red and green suede on its upper. The shoe also boasts a Concepts-branded footbed.
Even the packaging for the shoes has a “take me to the ballpark” feel, with the New York iteration being housed in a box reminiscent of a Cracker Jack box, while the Boston iteration resembles a bag of popcorn.
Concepts has also teamed up with the W Hotels & Resorts in Boston and New York City to create unique experience surrounding the shoes. The retailer is offering an opportunity to purchase both “City Rivalry Pack” models through two tiers of hotel packages — “Spectacular” and “Cool Corner” — that includes either two or four pairs of the shoes, up to four tickets to the invite-only sneaker release party at the W Boston with a top-shelf open bar on Saturday, overnight accommodations with late checkout, and a sneak preview of the sneakers upon booking. Booking starts at $695 per night, and more info is available at wboston.com/concepts.
