New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia turns 36 today.
The Vallejo, Calif.-born ace has accomplished a lot since entering the league in 2001 with the Cleveland Indians. Sabathia helped the Yankees win the World Series in 2009, was named the Most Valuable Player of the American League Championship Series in 2009, is a six-time All-Star, and won the American League Cy Young Award in 2007.
But what he doesn’t get enough credit for are the stellar cleats he laces up every time he takes the mound. Sabathia is a Jordan Brand-sponsored athlete who wears player’s editions of the label’s most celebrated shoes. Some of the cleats that have been spotted on his feet include the Air Jordan 11 “Concord,” the Air Jordan 11 “Space Jam,” and various colorways of the Air Jordan 12, the Air Jordan IV and the Air Jordan Fusion V, among others.
Sabathia — who towers over opponents with his 6-foot-6, 300-pound frame — has a career ERA of 3.70, with 219 wins and 2,648 strikeouts. Prior to his start today against the Baltimore Orioles, the pitcher’s stats for 2016 included a 3.94 ERA with a 5-7 record and 74 strikeouts.
