Antonio Brown Pays Tribute to Arnold Palmer With His Cleats

While the NFL has become stiff for not allowing players to wear cleats with a personal message, they did make an exception on Sunday night.
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown was allowed to wear a pair of cleats bearing an image of golf legend Arnold Palmer, who died last week at age 87. Brown had the opportunity to meet Palmer, a Pittsburgh-area native, earlier this year and shared video of their meeting on Twitter upon hearing news of Palmer’s death.

In the Steelers 43-13 win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night, Brown’s Nike cleats not only had Palmer’s face on them, but also the Pittsburgh skyline and the words “The King.”

Last month, players who chose to wear cleats honoring the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks were not fined by the league. However, the NFL did take action against DeAndre Hopkins when he wore Yeezy Boost 350 cleats.
