Michael Jordan’s backboard-shattering dunk during a 1985 exhibition game in Italy inspired the “Shattered Backboard” Air Jordan 1, a shoe that was among last year’s must-have kicks for sneakerheads. In October, Jordan Brand is set to deliver two signature styles with that same dunk as its inspiration.
Arriving in stores on Oct. 8 is the Air Jordan 1 “Shattered Backboard Away” and the Air Jordan XXXI “Shattered Backboard,” which will retail for $160 and $185, respectively. Both shoes will be available via SNKRS starting at 10 a.m. ET that day.
The first “Shattered Backboard” Air Jordan 1 was executed in the jersey colors of the team Jordan suited up for. Jordan Brand kept the same concept for the Air Jordan 1 “Shattered Backboard Away,” but dressed the shoe in the colors of the opposing team, employing a starfish, black and white color palette. The shoe features all the elements of the OG version, including its staple color blocking, Swoosh branding and Jordan’s wings logo near the ankle.
And the latest signature shoe for Jordan will receive the original “Shattered Backboard” treatment, delivering the shoe in a predominantly black and orange color palette, completed with a classic gum outsole.
