Adidas and White Mountaineering are back with another knockout collection.
At a runway show in Paris on Tuesday, the Japanese fashion label debuted its latest collaboration with Adidas, featuring men’s and women’s ready-to-wear and shoes with a sporty-luxe look.
In previous seasons, White Mountaineering has made creative use of the Adi three stripes and trefoil, and those elements were present — and prominent — once again as designer Yosuke Aizawa refashioned them into the shape of a mountain. But in a pleasant change, Aizawa this season introduced bright pops of red to his normally dark color palette.
White Mountaineering also introduced its take on some new Adidas sneaker silhouettes, including the NMD_R2, the EQT Support Future and the NMD City Trail style.
According to the brands, the line is intended to be a “streetwear uniform” for the urban nomad — a concept pointed to by the use of city names on some of the T-shirts.
Watch on FN
Since the partnership launched several seasons ago, it has been well received by retailers. Omar Quiambao, co-owner of Commonwealth sneaker shop in Washington, D.C., and Virginia Beach, Va., recently raved to FN about the collaboration, particularly the spring ’16 Energy Boost style, available now on Adidas.com for $180. “It’s low-key on the branding side, but stands out,” he said. “It gives off a futuristic, military, robotic feel, like the ‘Gundam’ comics from Japan.”
The first styles from the spring ’17 Adidas x White Mountaineering collection are slated to hit stores in January, with a second drop scheduled for March.
